TIME SAVINGS

As I sit here updating my website, I am constantly thinking about time and how I can manage it.  We all run into this problem on a daily basis and it seems to be a struggle with most of us figuring out how to manage what little time (especially daylight) we have in a 24 hour period. I have a few basic tips to provide you of what I do to manage my time and hopefully you can take it and modify it to your liking that works best for you.

  •            Preparation, this is vital to managing your time for each day. We need to be mindful of what tasks lay ahead of us the following day so getting things prepared as early as possible can allow more time to add to your daily clock. This can be as simple as making your lunch the day before to writing that paper 3 weeks in advance.
  •            Be okay with adjusting. As the day goes on not everything will go your way and managing that time you have can be altered by things not going the way they were expected. We need to be okay with adjustment. You will notice that when you do adjust things will not only speed up but your attitude will change typically for the better so you can focus more time on the minor details.
  •            You don’t have to micro manage with photography. I use to be at fault for this one thing so much that it caused not only a bad attitude but I lost a lot of motivation for shooting in general. When you break away from managing each thing to the point of going deranged you will notice that things “out of place” will start falling in place even if it seems off. That line or cable might not fit right so spending so much time setting up for the angle that removes it out of the photo might be a time waster. Don’t micro manage the shot, maybe that cable can be a leading line for your subject.
  •             Relax, things will always happen whether its for the better or worse. When I am on location or heading to a spot the weather might not pan out the way we wanted or your battery might not be as fully charged as you thought (back to preparation). The one thing you can do is breath… Take a deep breath… in.. and.. out.. doing this step is crucial to not breaking down on set due to things not panning out. It’s amazing that we seem to forget about this step when things go array.

I hope that some of these tips I have let you all in on today helps on set or even the day before while getting prepared for that major event.

Stay focused,

Peter Terry
